Last winter, we invited our customers to take part in a competition to design a label, for Bottle Apostle’s first red wine.
The contest proved popular with lots of you and gave us many truly imaginative and wonderful entries. This meant some time was needed to appropriately judge and select a winner.
Once we had a very vivid image of our champion firmly fixed in our minds we set off for Bordeaux, selecting our first wine on a visit to Chateau De Seuil. The Chateau is set along one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Europe, ‘The Way of St James’. The route winds its way into the Pyrenees and is said to lead to the grave of St James himself, one of the Twelve Apostles. Coincidence or divine intervention?
So, without further ado, the winner is…
Peter Haslam Fox

Fox took his inspiration from the shop and the name Bottle Apostle, as he explains “I went to a monastic school, so the obvious memory conjured up by ‘Bottle Apostle’ is of a couple of monks I recall who's fondness for a tipple led to the formation of a school wine club.”
Judge Naomi Murtagh, of Art Work Space, felt this label design was by far the most visually striking of all the competition entries. “Fox perfectly interpreted what we were looking for in terms of creating something memorable that would double up as a conversation piece - something you might want to pick-up and buy, not only for the great wine inside but also for the image on the bottle.” Owner Andrew Eakin goes on to say “It's an image that leaves a lasting impression and sums up Bottle Apostle exactly.”
