A must for fans of Portugal. We're incredibly proud to host Susana Esteban. Originally from Galicia, Susana is recognised as one of Portugal's top winemakers, having enjoyed a successful career in the Douro Valley since 1999. Moving south to the Alentejo region, she discovered various fantastic vineyards in the cooler, higher area of Portalegre, and in the warmer areas around Evora and Estremoz (inland from Lisbon). From these amazing resources, including old, mixed plantings, we will be tasting at the 'Aventura' and 'Procura' wines, and considering the geography and winemaking that contributed to the styles.
The close-knit and friendly nature of the wine industry - not to mention the respect for Susana generally - has led to some fascinating side projects. The 'Sidecar' label has yielded impressive wines in partnership with Dirk Niepoort in 2014, and Filipa Pato & William Wouters in 2015 (all old friends of Bottle Apostle), and we will taste these too. Susana has also formed a partnership with another excellent producer, Sandra Tavares, in the Douro. 'Crochet' is the result, already established as one of Douro's best; and we'll taste it tonight. As always, attractive case discounts will be offered on the night.
