About Us

How it started

Bottle Apostle is a family-owned London based wine group with four locations across the city. It was established in 2009 within East London’s Victoria Park Village with the idea that a wine shop could cater as much to the wine novice as it does to the seasoned enthusiast. This approach to wine quickly spread leading to the opening of our second shop in North London’s Crouch End (2012), followed by Clapham’s Abbeville Village (2014), and another North London location in Primrose Hill (2015). All four shops carry our belief that customers should be able to explore wine without intimidation. To help, all the wines we sell are colour-coded, food matched and concisely described. If you still have trouble deciding, our qualified team are on hand to help and share their knowledge.

We firmly believe that true independent wine merchants should serve their local communities, so we’ve carefully selected our shops to join thriving areas that offer the “village feel” Londoners love. With a view to reward our devoted customers, we offer in-store loyalty cards which can be used towards a 15% discount once full.

For those who prefer a more in-depth wine experience, we run a regular schedule of tasting events highlighting unique wines, themed selections and new additions to our range. We also run informal tastings every Friday evening between 4-8pm which are free and a great way to meet other wine lovers in the area.

Since opening in 2009, we’ve moved from strength to strength. We were delighted when the Telegraph Magazine kindly named us “Britain's Best Small Wine Shop” in 2011 after only a short time of trading. We were thrilled when we were awarded "Small Independent Merchant of the Year" in 2012 by the International Wine Challenge, and completely humbled when we won “London Merchant of the Year” in 2014. We closed off 2015 as Decanter Magazine's "Large Independent Merchant of the Year" as well as Harpers Magazine's "Best Independent Merchant of the Year". We hope you'll take the opportunity to pop into one of our shops and discover why.
