Ada River Chardonnay

With this wine, Patrick Sullivan set out to create one of Australia's msotexpressive Chardonnays. You could say he succeeded, and then some. Just one hectare of vines in Gippsland in the shadow of Mt Baw Baw are grown on volcanic soils and deep basalt rock. There is an immense concentration as the wine is dry grown without any irrigation. There is a core of citrus fresh acidity, lemon and grapefruit, followed by fresh peach and buttered toast. Malolactic fermentation brings creaminess and the 30% new oak brings hazelnuts, vanilla and hints of creme brulee. Burgundy, take notice. This wine more than holds its own against some of the more reknowned villages and their 1er Crus.
