Carcavelos 7 Year Old

In the 18th Century the Marquês de Pombal wanted to make fortified wine at his estate just outside Lisbon rather than having to get it all the way from the Douro, and he paid to get Carcavelos classified as the only DOC for fortified wine in Lisbon. Sweet and rich with unctuous flavours of dried orange, stone fruit and walnuts, balanced by an almost saline acidity to keep it fresh.
