Morgon Cote de Py

Domaine de la Chaponne

If ever Beaujolais were to get a 1er Cru Vineyard (and they are trying!) then the Cote de Py in Morgon would be a strong candidate. It is an area of Blue schist soils that gives these morgon wines in particular more depth, concentration and tannins. This one from la Chaponne is no different. Deep, dark black cherries interlaced with wild strawberry and balanced with ripe tannins, you could age this wine well for a few years. How this doesn't cost more to buy is a mystery.
